Letter on Fidel Castro to the Argus

LETTER  ON FIDEL CASTRO TO THE EDITOR, THE ARGUS NEWSPAPER,  BRIGHTON.

From Pauline Fraser
Letter to the Editor.

Richard J Szypulski writes in Tuesday’s letter to the Argus doubting Fidel Castro was a hero.
Fidel Castro prioritised the needs of the Cuban people, mainly workers and peasants  and not the interests of the owners of capital.

And what a life well lived ! At 90 years young he led and defended a revolution and a society which prioritised free education and health services for all, thus greatly raising Cubans’ standard of living.

Faced with the US blockade and US occupation of its own sovereign territory at the Guantanamo camp, the Cuban people have continued to build a society where all are included and none are left behind.

People of goodwill worldwide, as well as here in Brighton, from supporters of the Labour Party, the Green Party and trades unionists, recognise what an enormous achievement this has been.

We in Brighton Cuba Solidarity pay tribute to Fidel and pledge ourselves to continue his work to end the US blockade and occupation of Guantanamo.

Cuba has shown that another world is possible. The world has lost a giant and is a poorer place without Fidel Castro.
