The United States orchestrates unprecedented provocation against Cuba in the United Nations
Granma 10/16/18
This afternoon, the U.S. government called a press conference to slander Cuba in the UN’s Economic and Social Council hall. As the meeting concluded, a teleSUR correspondent stated, “This is the environment. The meeting is over. The hall almost empty. Very few of those invited by the U.S.”
The United States intends to defend, by any means, its unilateral policy of economic blockade, which is the object of universal condemnation, and violates international law.
The U.S. government knows that this conduct is not supported by the U.S. population, or by Cubans residing there.
They fabricate unfounded accusations, issuing defamatory statements regarding the safety of diplomats in Cuba.
Far from dialoguing on the basis of respect, as Cuba has done to promote cooperation, as it does with other countries, the U.S. government resorts to fraudulent accusations and slander campaigns.
The U.S. government allocates millions of dollars every year to attack Cuba’s constitutional order, interfere in internal affairs, and finance individuals who act as agents of a foreign power, which is illegal in Cuba, as it is in the United States and other countries.
Cuban President Slams Uptick In ‘Hostile Rhetoric’ From US
Xinhua 10/16/18
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday said the United States was intensifying its “hostile rhetoric” against the island.
“The government of the United States is resorting to increasing its hostile rhetoric against Cuba,” Diaz-Canel said via Twitter.
“We have the sovereign right to determine our destiny without foreign interference,” he added.
The “essential defining element” of bilateral ties between Cuba and the United States continues to be the half-century trade embargo that “aims to strangle the Cuban economy, create misery and subvert the constitutional order,” said the president.

Just-Announced U.S. and Cuba Biopharma Venture Sees Fruit in Lung Cancer Study
BioSpace 09/27/18
A three-year-old cancer research alliance between U.S. and Cuban scientists is bearing fruit. A Cuban-developed lung cancer treatment combined with Bristol-Myers Squibb’s anti-PDL1 Opdivo shows promise in treating patients who would not likely benefit from immune checkpoint inhibition.
Put into motion three years ago but formally launched this week, The Innovative Immunotherapy Alliance SA, a partnership between the Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo, New York and Cuba’s Center for Molecular Immunology, is testing the Cuban-developed lung cancer drug CIMAvax-EGF, an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-depleting immunotherapy.

Speaking at the General Assembly in the plenary session of the Secretary General of the United Nations about the work of the multilateral body, the ambassador called for the cessation of unilateral coercive measures against developing countries, and an end to colonialism and foreign occupation.
In that sense, she denounced the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than 50 years.
